Douglas County residents can get flu shots for free

Douglas county residents can get a free flu shot at a drive-thru vaccination event this weekend.

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Those in Douglas County can get a flu shot for free tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. 

The Douglas Public Health Network is hosting their first free drive-thru vaccination event. 

The DPHN says their goal is to ramp up vaccinations during the holiday season as people begin to travel. 

Douglas County residents ages 3 and up are eligble for the free shots. Only 2,000 shots are available. No insurance is required to get a shot. 

The CDC estimates that last season the flu vaccine prevented 5.1 million cases of flu, 2.5 million flu-related medical visits, and 71,000 flu-associated hospitalizations.
