ROSEBURG, Ore. - Douglas County Clerk, Patricia Hitt, is urging people to register to vote.
She said she wants to get the message out there and remind people to register early. She understands this time of year can be hectic with the holidays, and she doesn't want it to slip through anyone's fingers.
Hitt said she also realizes that many people may not expect a special election at this time of year, so they might not remember to register for that reason.
She wanted to express to everyone how important it is that they're able to use their voice and vote.
”Well it’s very important, it’s part of our civic duty and responsibility. Everyone is…it levels the playing field. Everyone is the same. Everyone gets one vote," said Hitt.
January's special election will be a state-wide election. The ballot will contain Measure 101, which deals with funding healthcare for low-income residents in Oregon.
The last day to register for this election will be January 2, and ballots will be due back on January 23.
