BLUE RIVER, Ore. -- Suppression efforts for a wildfire burning near Blue River in Lane County will continue through the night Wednesday, but good progress is being made, the Oregon Department of Forestry said.

ODF said they were alerted to a fire near Mt. Hagen at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area.

By noon, the Dorris Creek Fire had grown to 30 acres. It is at 50 acres as of 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. ODF said it’s burning in logging slash on private industrial land.

The fire is visible from the Blue River School District and neighboring homes, but the winds are carrying it away from the school. There is no apparent risk to structures at this time, but there is a moderate threat of spreading.

ODF, the United States Forest Service, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, Upper McKenzie Fire and Rescue and multiple private landowners are fighting the blaze. About 70 people are on the fire.

Multiple aircraft are assigned to the fire, many of which have been diverted from the Terwilliger Fire.

Officials said conditions are still dry and fire season is far from over, so continue to be diligent in efforts to remain fire safe.
