Deputies identify man killed in gyrocopter crash

The operator of the gyrocopter was the sole occupant.

ROSEBURG, Ore. – Deputies have identified the man who was killed in a gyrocopter crash on Thursday.

Authorities said Lee Pauling, 77, of Olympia, Washington, was operating a maroon Cavalon gyroplane when it crashed at about 2:15 p.m. on private property.

It happened near the 2300 block of Glengary Loop Road.

Pauling was declared dead at the scene and was the only occupant on board at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
