EUGENE, Ore. -- The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality fined Rolling Frito-Lay Sales $11,265 for failing to comply with stormwater monitoring requirements at its Eugene facility.

The department says between Jan. 1, 2017, and June 30, 2017, the company failed to properly monitor its stormwater discharge at its Tyinn Street motor freight transportation and warehousing facility. The company was required to monitor its stormwater for total copper, total lead, total zinc, pH, total suspended solids and total oil and grease twice, but it only monitored once.

The DEQ also cited the company for violations at a facility in Portland, but they were not penalized.

The DEQ says the public cannot evaluate whether stormwater controls are protecting water quality without information from sampling.

Rolling Frito-Lay Sales has until Mar. 14 to appeal the fine.
