EUGENE, Ore. -- A fire destroyed a mobile home in Eugene on Wednesday.

It happened at Roosevelt Acres at the corner of N Bertelsen Road and Roosevelt Boulevard.

Firefighters responded at about 4:30 p.m and had the fire under control within 10 minutes. No one was inside the mobile home when it started. But before firefighters arrived, Matt Bryson jumped into action with a garden hose.

"I started to fight back the flames or at least hold them back so they wouldn't spread to another structure.," Bryson said.

Bryson lives a few houses down from where the fire happened and he said once he saw smoke, he knew he had to jump into action. He said his main concern was people trapped inside.

"I started yelling, 'is anyone in there? Fire, fire!' I was hoping there wasn't a person, a pet, or anything in there," Bryson said.

Officials with the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department said the home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
