EUGENE, Ore. -- Two cars were involved in a fiery crash Friday night on Interstate 5 near milepost 209.

Police said it was a head-on crash that happened around 10 p.m. One car was flipped on its side and was engulfed in flames. Police said 20-year-old Andrea Dammer of Eugene, was driving that vehicle and was pulled out of the car from bystanders moments before it went up in flames.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle involved, 44-year-old Richard Johnson of Burns, fled the scene. They said Johnson even attempted to get into another vehicle passing by.

They said he was reported at several different locations south of the area, but was unable to be located. Police said he was identified by several people from the DMV photo of the registered owner of the vehicle. They said charges will be referred to the District Attorney's office.

Following the crash, two lanes of traffic were impacted and there were delays up to 20 minutes while crews worked to clear the road.

Due to the heavy traffic, there was a secondary crash near the same area. Police said the driver of one vehicle was following too close to another vehicle and hit them when traffic slowed down.
