CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A Corvallis man is in jail Tuesday after being accused of threatening to kill his neighbor with an ax, police said.
Tyson Welt, 33, was taken to the Benton County Jail and lodged with a bail amount of $87,500. He faces charges of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.
Police said they responded at about 8:35 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance on 190 SE Viewmont Ave. A caller said Welt had accused the neighbor of theft.
Welt retreated into his apartment, and officers attempted to contact him, but he refused to talk or leave the apartment.
Nearby neighbors and Lincoln Elementary School were made aware of the situation, police said.
Police obtained a search warrant and entered the apartment and found him barricaded inside a bedroom. He was taken into custody without incident.
