CORVALLIS, Ore. – A man who was assaulted in Corvallis is being taken off life support, as the suspect is recovering after an attempted suicide.
Benton County District Attorney Ryan Joslin said Mitch Dong is not expected to live after being taken off life support on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the man accused of trying to murder him last week, Than Kim, is in the hospital after prosecutors said he attempted suicide after paying $67,500 to bail himself out of jail on Monday.
Joslin said he was expected in court Tuesday, but didn’t show up. Kim will be arrested after he’s released from the hospital.
According to court documents, Dong was having an extramarital affair with Kim’s wife.
Police said Kim walked into a nail salon off of Kings Boulevard on Dec. 5 and saw them having sex. They said he then assaulted him with a baseball bat and a knife.
Officers said Kim initially told them he was only defending himself, but then he described the attack to them.
Police said they asked Kim to describe his emotions during the assault. Court documents show he told them he felt “closure.”
