COOS BAY, Ore. -- Two people have died in a house fire in Coos Bay early Monday morning.
Firefighters were called out to a fire at a home on S. 19th Street in Coos Bay at 1:30 a.m. They said flames were seen coming from a window on the side of the home and the fire was spreading.
Neighbors told fire crews that the residents were unaccounted for and may still be inside the house. Firefighters later found out that the couple died in the fire.
While the fire was contained to one room, the entire house was exposed to thick, black smoke. The house did not have any working fire alarms, according to firefighters.
Fire crews don't know what started the fire but are investigating with the assistance of the Oregon State Fire Marshal's office and the Regional Fire Investigation Team.
They would like to remind the public that working smoke alarms are critical in keeping your family safe.
