Many in Eugene say that with the frequency of mass shootings in America, they are desensitized to the horror.

"When these were happening a few years ago with Sandy Hook - it was huge news and now it seems like every other day there's a mass shooting," said Colin Ford, a Eugene resident.

Some neighbors in our community say strides are being made.

"I think the efforts put towards mental health checks and gun ownership has been a decent thing," said Trenton Zayse, another resident.

While others say more needs to be done.

"I think it's sad," said Daniel Libolt, a Eugene resident. "But I think the part that's more sad is it doesn't feel like anything is being done. It doesn't feel like we are taking any steps to fix it."

It has almost been four years since the horrific UCC shooting that devastated the Umpqua Basin and Lynn McCallister with Umpqua Strong says the process it takes for a community to heal is never the same twice.

"Everyone heals in their own way and at their own level," said McCallister.

She also added that after a dark night, a morning will follow.

"From this darkness there will be light and their community will be stronger... it will just take time."
