ROSEBURG, OR. -- The Roseburg City Council declared the month of April as "human trafficking awareness month" in Roseburg at Monday's city council meeting.

The city and the "Douglas County Human Trafficking Task Force" teamed up to help spread awareness of the issue in the area.

The task force said they’re going to continue to get information about the issue, and want to help local businesses know the signs.

“We want as many of the community members to know what to look for and have those numbers to call it in. If they’re not sure, they don’t have to call 9-1-1 or law enforcement. They can call a hotline, who can walk them through the steps of what they’re looking at,” said Taskforce Chair Marion Kotowski.

Organizers said there are several events coming up to educate the public and local businesses about the warning signs that trafficking is happening.
