EUGENE, Ore. --The City of Eugene is working to start an Electric Scooter Pilot Program for shared-use scooters, like bike-share but for scooters.

The electric scooters would bring a whole new form of transportation to residents in Eugene, but also a whole new set of challenges, some community members say.

"I think it's a decent idea, except for the fact that people will just throw them around, like they're pieces of trash. Cause I've seen that from where I'm from in California, they just litter the streets," Joseph Dawes, Eugene resident, said.

In order to lay the foundation for the pilot, however, several things need to happen first.

This includes making changes to city code, establishing criteria for selecting e-scooter companies, and creating regulations to govern how and where e-scooters may operate.

Currently, the program is predicted to launch in spring 2020.
