EUGENE, Ore. – A local child psychologist has been sentenced on 15 counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.
Craig Steinberg will serve 15 years in prison after pleading guilty.
The Lane County District Attorney’s office said Steinberg was running a private practice at the time of his arrest. He previously worked in the Bethel and Springfield school districts and at SCAR Jasper Mountain.
Springfield police investigated the allegations and found that Steinberg had been downloading and sharing “a significant volume of child sexual abuse images and videos for a number of years,” the DA’s office said.
The DA’s office said the sentence takes into account the fact that Steinberg was in a position of trust in the community and was working with vulnerable children, many having experienced sexual abuse themselves.
