Chesire man arrested for eluding police and multiple other charges

McGrath was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving and Attempting to Elude Police.

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. --- A Chesire man was arrested Sunday afternoon in Junction City after speeding out of town and running a red light. 

Around 4:12 p.m. a Junction City Police officer saw a vehicle, driven by Vergil Lee McGrath, traveling north on Ivy Street through town at 57 miles per hour.

Officials said McGrath sped out of town, running a red light at 18th Avenue and heading towards Harrisburg. Officials said McGrath eventually stopped near McMullen Drive and was taken into custody.

McGrath was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving and Attempting to Elude Police.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office was also trying to locate McGrath.

McGrath was wanted for pointing a firearm at another, menacing, reckless endangering and criminal mischief stemming from an incident the previous day where he fired multiple rounds at another person.

McGrath was lodged at the Lane County Jail.
