EUGENE, Ore. -- A man seen firing a gun in broad daylight has residents of a Eugene neighborhood feeling scared to leave their own homes.

According to neighbors, a man was caught on camera as he opened fire in an alley near the power substation on West 15th Avenue and Jefferson Street on Sunday evening.

Video from a neighbor's surveillance camera shows the man as he walks through the alley holding a gun in his hand. Moments later, he raises his arms and fires a single shot.

No one is believed to have been injured during the shooting, but that provides little comfort to neighbors like Anya Dobrowolski who live just across the street from where the incident happened.

"Just the randomness of it is really what makes me feel the most unsafe," Dobrowolski said. "The video we saw, it didn't seem like there was any sort of conflict going on. It was just a guy with a gun who felt like shooting it off in the neighborhood."

Neighbors called police not long after the shooting, but the man was gone by the time officers arrived minutes later.

Devin Hockett lives nearby but did not hear the shot. He said he found out later from neighbors, and was alarmed at the news.

"Pretty terrified. I've got a 3-month-old daughter and we've got dogs. We knew there was some drug use and potential prostitution back here but I've never seen anybody with a gun or just shooting it off," Hockett said.

Eugene Police are investigating. According to police, EWEB, Lane County and the City of Eugene are working on lighting improvements for the area.
