Two people dead after crash in Eugene; police investigating

Officials say it happened around 1 a.m. on West 18th Avenue near Parliament Street.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Two people are dead following a crash in a west Eugene neighborhood early Monday morning. 

Officials said the crash happened around 1 a.m. on West 18th Avenue near Parliament Street. 

The crash was originally reported as a house fire because a vehicle collided with a tree and caught fire.

Eugene Police is investigating and identities of the two victims are still pending.

The crash shut down part of West 18th Avenue and several nearby blocks for hours, but it opened back up around 4:45 a.m. 

The cause of the crash is unknown. Anyone with relevant information should call 541.682.5111.
