EUGENE, Ore. -- The very first My Breast Friends 5K is taking place at Alton Baker Park on Sunday. It was started by a local cancer survivor, who wanted something positive to come from her diagnosis.

Kelly Barton is organizing the walk/run. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. She decided to plan this 5K to celebrate her final chemo treatment and to help others going through a similar battle.

"On the day of my diagnosis, I told my husband that something positive has to come from this...and up until that point I had been a runner," said Barton.

She said all the money raised goes to the Oregon Cancer Foundation.

It's Sunday, June 10th. The silent auction starts at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10:00 a.m.

You can sign up online until 5:00 p.m. Saturday night (the entry fee is $25). You can also sign up at the race Sunday morning (the entry fee for race day registration is $30 dollars).
