CRATER LAKE, Ore. -- Campfires are no longer allowed in the backcountry at Crater Lake National Park.

The change comes with the annual update of the Superintendent’s Compendium, a document that details park specific rules and regulations according to a press release from the National Park.

Right now, wood fires and charcoal fires are still allowed at Mazama Campground, Rim Village Picnic Area, and park residential areas.

Self-contained gas and solid fuel camp stoves and grills are still allowed in the backcountry, as well as in Mazama Campground, picnic areas, and residential areas.

Anyone who fails to comply with the restrictions may be cited or arrested.
