COOS COUNTY, Ore. – A California man is dead after his dirt bike crashed at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area on Tuesday.
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Razorback Hill at about 3:15 p.m. along with the Hauser Fire Department and Bay Cities Ambulance.
Dustin DelCarlo, 51, of Fort Jones was riding a Yamaha dirt bike south on top of the hill when he launched off the slip face of the dune and landed about 60 feet on the downhill slope and crashed.
He reportedly was unconscious for about 15 to 20 minutes. Emergency responders transported DelCarlo off the sand and began CPR. He was pronounced dead at about 4:22 p.m.
DelCarlo was wearing a helmet and at this time intoxication is not believed to have been a factor.
This comes months after two ATV crashes at the Oregon Dunes in May. A woman was killed in one crash, and a California man was cited in the second.
