EUGENE, Ore. -- With around 4,500 people registered for the Eugene Marathon and half marathon this weekend, businesses have been preparing for big crowds.

A representative from Travel Lane County estimated the marathon will bring in about $2 million to the area over the three-day weekend. Businesses downtown near the marathon's route, like Falling Sky Brewing, said their business benefits from the marathon.

Robert Cohen, owner of Falling Sky Brewing, said to be ready for the crowds they will have more staff working over the weekend. He also said they had to purchase about 50 percent more food than normal to make sure they don't run out.

"We sell more food when more people come and it's more profitable for us," Cohen said. "We really love that part of it too. We're really happy to have more people come in."

Cohen said they will be preparing some healthier food for runners, along with pasta and protein-packed dishes. He said they will also have plenty of unhealthy options for those on the sidelines cheering the runners on.

Cohen said they work with the Eugene Marathon and will have specials for both runners and their families over the weekend. He said runners will get $2 off and families can get $5 off.
