EUGENE, Ore. -- One non-profit organization in Eugene is asking for more help from the community during what they say is the busiest time of year for them.

KEZI spoke with Jennifer Denson one of the organizers of the Burrito Brigade. She said the volunteer run organization has been serving people throughout Eugene since 2014.

Denson said their mission is to feed the hungry and homeless throughout Lane County by hand-delivering them vegan burritos for free.
However, she said it can get difficult to get enough volunteers every weekend during the summer months because people are on trips.

KEZI spoke to one University of Oregon student who has been volunteering for the nonprofit for the last year. She said she finds volunteering for Burrito Brigade very rewarding.

"Every time someone’s like, oh are you from the Burrito Brigade we've been waiting for you, or do you have the water today and the burrito, I’m so excited, you guys have the best burritos,” said Magda Van Leeuwen. “It's really great to know that I’m making a difference in people’s lives and kind of brightening their day, especially since the weekends are more food insecure days."

Organizers said they meet every weekend year-round. On Saturdays they meet at the Bethesda Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., and on Sundays at the First Christian Church from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Organizers said they are always in need of more supplies and volunteers. To find more information on how to get involved or help, click HERE.
