EUGENE, Ore.-- A coming bar in West Eugene was burglarized early Saturday morning, costing the owners thousands of dollars before it even opened.

Autumn Sanders owns Broken Glass Bar which will be opening in place of the closed Brew and Cue on Highway 99 near the Beltline. She has enlisted friends and family in the effort to renovate the watering hole, which in some places has required extensive construction work.

According to Eugene police the door to the bar was cracked open just after midnight Saturday.

Sanders said she reported the burglary after finding electronics, restaurant equipment and personal tools missing later that morning.

"It would have been one thing if he stuck to the business stuff. I'd be like, 'Alright, I can make this work,'" she said. "But he went above and beyond. He went personal. He went and took our personal stuff. And that's the most heartbreaking."

She estimates that around $10,000 of equipment was stolen, including the DVR that stored the bar's security footage. Regardless, the burglar's actions were captured on a neighbor's security camera.

Sanders and her friends believe they know who the burglar is, though police would not confirm details about the open investigation.

"He will get his because he is on video. We know exactly who it is. You think friends are friends but you learn different," Marty Houser, whose tools were taken from the bar, said.

According to Sanders much of the missing bar equipment can be replaced by items from her old business. However, insurance will not be able to cover any of her losses because the building's security system had not been activated over the holidays.

She is currently borrowing tools from a fellow business owner. Sanders hopes to open the bar next Friday.

"You can sit at home and cry about it or get up, get your big girl pants on, and get it done anyway," she said.
