SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The body of a missing Springfield man has been found, Maine officials say.
Divers with the Marine Warden Service found Christopher Friedrich, 41, in about 30 feet of water about a half-mile north of the Swan Lake boat launch Monday afternoon.
The recovery came on the sixth day of searching at the lake.
Friedrich was reported missing on June 8, and officials located and interviewed someone who had seen a kayak floating upside down in the lake a couple of days prior. Maine officials said they tracked the kayak to Friedrich and found his vehicle at the Swanville Boat launch.
He’d last been in contact with family on June 5.
According to loved ones, he was in Maine as a part of a cross country journey to spread his father's ashes in a few of his favorite locations, and he'd been gone for weeks.
