SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Police are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found along the Willamette River on Friday morning.

The death is a possible homicide, police said, but the department is looking at all possibilities.

Police said the body was found between the bike path and the river near the 600 block of West D Street at about 10:30 a.m. It doesn’t appear to have been in the area for very long, likely less than 24 hours, police said.

The medical examiner’s office will work to determine a time and cause of death.

Police said the body has been identified and family members are being contacted.

If you were on the bike path in the past day or so and saw anything suspicious, you are asked to call police at 541-726-3721.
