SPRINGFIELD, Ore.-- Lane County officials say the Bellinger and Hendricks Bridge boat ramps have reopened after an oil spill in the McKenzie river. Hayden Bridge Boat Ramp was still closed as of Friday night.

On Friday, clean up crews continued to work all day at the river. They pulled some of the booms out of the river. Then, new, smaller, booms were put in as insurance. A hard boom covered a big part of the river with a weighted curtain that hangs about a foot down. They are used to collect the oil and move it to the sides of the river, where a soft white boom is being used to absorb the oil.

"What they're gonna do is kind of put that absorbent material it is near the outfall, they'll keep it near the outfall, and then they'll have a small spot downstream that will have some booms," said Katherine Benenati, a spokesperson with the Department of Environmental Quality.
