EUGENE, Ore. -- There's an emergency need for blood in our area because of Hurricane Florence.

Bloodworks Northwest sent an emergency shipment of 34 blood components to hospitals on the east coast to help them prepare for the potentially devastating impact. That means inventory levels in our area are dangerously low and could affect the nearly 100 local hospitals that count on Bloodworks supply.

Staff at the center are asking all donors with O negative, O positive, B negative and AB negative to donate as soon as possible.

"Blood is the one product that you can't manufacture,” said Annette Casper, manager at Bloodworks. “It is something that we rely strictly on the kindness of others to donate. Your donation can save up to three lives."

The donation center is located at 2211 Willamette Street. They’re open every day.
