EUGENE, Ore. -- A bicyclist was struck by two cars on the north bank of the McKenzie River on Thursday night, suffering what one witness described as a "massive head wound."

The crash happened around 7 o'clock on McKenzie View Drive not far from Harvest Landing.

A witness told KEZI 9 News that he was with a group of rafters when he heard the collision, followed by the sound of a woman screaming. He and the others scrambled up the river bank and saw two riders, including a man who was flat on his back with a head injury.

The witness said he called 911 and was coached by dispatchers to begin chest compressions on the injured man.

"We didn't know if he could hear us, he might be able to hear us and can't say anything," the man said. "So you're just praying to God that he's going to make it through and paramedics are going to get here as fast as they possibly can."

A state trooper on the scene said the man's condition is not know at this time.
