Eugene, Ore. -- Oregon State junior outfielder Shelby Weeks said earlier in the week that the Beavers were 'Duck Hunting' ahead of the Civil War series. That proved to be the case following the Beavers 8-0 destruction of the Ducks in the first game of the weekend at Jane Sanders Stadium. The run-rule victory was OSU's first against the Ducks in the series since 2001.

Missy Nunes paced Oregon State with two hits and one homerun, while Maia Rader also drove in two runs of her own with a double in the second inning. By the end of the second, the Beavers found themselves already up 3-0. Nunes stepped up to the plate in the third with Frankie Hammoude on base, and drove a ball deep to the center field fence, bouncing off the top and into the glove of Haley Cruse. But officials ruled the ball a homerun, which gave the Beavers a 5-0 lead that eventually stretched to 8-0 by the fifth.

Oregon managed to get runners into scoring position throughout the game, but pithcer Mariah Mazon managed to keep the Ducks off the board for her fourth solo shutout of the season. Oregon falls to 21-23 on the season, 4-12 in Pac-12 play, while the Beavers improve to 22-18 and 4-13 in conference. The series continues on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Jane Sanders Stadium.
