Barricaded man now in custody, authorities say

Officials said the man who barricaded himself in a house on Vaughn Road is now in custody.

NOTI, Ore. – Lane County Sheriff’s Office officials said the man who barricaded himself in a house on Vaughn Road is now in custody.

David Schmidt, 47, was located and arrested in his house more than 24 hours after the standoff began, they said.

Schmidt is booked in Lane County Jail on assault in the fourth degree, menacing, strangulation, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest.

The SWAT team and bomb squad responded to the house Monday morning. In addition to Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputies, officers from Eugene Police Department and the University of Oregon Police Department were also on scene.
