EUGENE, Ore. – The Bags of Love is getting ready to share the love.

The organization put together sacks with items donated through KEZI’s drive with the program. KEZI's drive ended on Mar. 2.

In 2017, they worked with about 50 non-profits, government offices, and school district and ended up giving 2,244 bags to children struggling with abuse, neglect, poverty, and homelessness. That’s 32,925 pounds of donated goods.

Donations increased 24 percent since 2016 and 40 percent since 2015. Organizers said in their first year, police departments and sheriff's offices helped them distribute 205 bags.

Bags of Love says 85 percent of the items in the bags are donated by individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout Lane County. The average value of a bag of love is $145.

Bags of Love is still collecting donations. They are still in need of new pajamas for sizes infant through adult medium, new socks and underwear, soap, shampoo, deodorant, loose-leaf notebook paper, 12-pack colored pencils, small toys for infants and toddlers, and books for all ages.

Donations can be dropped off at several locations around town. Click here to find a drop off location.
