EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene police say an officer attempted to make a traffic stop when a car flew by on the Beltline going nearly 100 mph.

Police said it happened sometime between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Instead of pulling over, the driver fled and turned into a subdivision that had a dead end.

The 28-year-old male driver then exited the vehicle and hid in a storage shed in a mobile home park near Green Acres and Delta Road.

A K-9 unit located the suspect and he was arrested.

"While he was in there it appears he was texting or calling somebody to come and get him, to let them know he was hiding. And just as we took him into custody and were extracting him out to our vehicle we heard several shots go off probably about 100 yards from our location," said Sgt. Sam Stotts.

Sgt. Stotts says that it didn't seem like the shots were being fired at police, but rather trying to draw the attention away from the suspect and distract the officers, so the suspect could get away.

According to police, no one was injured and the suspect is now in custody.

This is a developing story.
