EUGENE, Ore. -- A man was taken into custody Sunday after a nearly seven-hour standoff in the 100 block of Lea Avenue in Eugene.

Jonathan James Tupper, 30, is being charged with menacing, and police said other charges may be pending.

Police said they received a menacing call from a home on Lea Avenue in Eugene.

Eugene Police, SWAT, Eugene Springfield Fire and a negotiations team were on scene.

Neighbors said police used their yards to help them access the house the subject was in.

Police used at least eight flash bangs and tear gas in an attempt to get the subject out of the house.

Neighbors told KEZI 9 News they were unable to get to their children during the standoff because police would not let anyone past the caution tape.

Jeremy Linfor lives down the street from where this all happened and said this is nothing like he's ever seen on his block before.

"It's pretty quiet here. All we really get is cars that somewhat speed down the road and that's it," said Linfor. "We have nothing like this happen."
