EUGENE, Ore. -- It’s important to protect yourself from scams as best as you can, Oregon Pacific Bank President and CEO Ron Green says.

Two common scams are phishing and vishing

What’s the difference between “Phishing” and “Vishing”?

You hear a lot these days about phishing, which is when someone sends you an unsolicited email asking you to give personal information about your identity or bank accounts.

Vishing is voice phishing. Someone may call you and say, “Hi, this is Ron from the bank. I wanted to verify your social security number.”

Green warns you to be very cautious. Typically, financial institutions or anybody who has your personal information won’t call you to verify the information.

So be cautious and don’t give it out, Green says.
