EUGENE, Ore. – A suspect is in custody after a fire at a mental health facility in Eugene.

It happened just before 10 a.m. on Monday at apartments in the 1000 block of Patterson Street. The facility there provides short-term housing for patients with mental health issues.

A staff member heard the fire alarm going off and found an apartment with an item on fire inside. She used water to put it out.

Eugene-Springfield Fire and the Fire Marshal’s Office responded.

Suspect David Cruz-Snyder, 21, reportedly left the facility shortly after the fire started. Officers found and arrested him at a local hospital the next morning. He faces a charge of first-degree arson.
