ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Umpqua Community College’s apprenticeship program is getting a new home for the upcoming school year.

It’s moving from South Umpqua High School to a building near the Roseburg airport.

Directors from 13 community college apprenticeship programs held their regular meeting at UCC on Tuesday to make sure their programs are on the right track.

UCC’s Dean of Career and Technical Education Jason Aase said they discussed where their programs are at, if any improvements can be made, and if they’re meeting the current needs of the trade industry.

“The apprenticeship model – they’re active employees. So, their employer is sending them to training. So, it’s a fantastic source of training. It’s training targeted to what the employers need. Very… precision. Precision training.”

UCC maintains an average of 140 apprentices training in fields like industrial fabricators, machinists, and millwrights.
