EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene-Springfield successfully put out a fire inside an apartment building early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to Rivers Edge Townhomes around 2:30 a.m. and found a unit on the ground floor burning and extending to the second floor.

Crews on scene told KEZI that the fire started in a partially enclosed porch area outside the unit.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire to prevent it from spreading to nearby units. Some smoke did make it to two other attached units, but there was little to no damage.

There was one person inside the apartment, but Eugene-Springfield Fire said that person is fine. Officials said the unit did have working smoke detectors.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
