ALBANY, Ore.-- A train crashed into a vehicle on the tracks at an Albany railroad crossing Thursday afternoon, killing one man.

Around 2:35 p.m., a northbound Amtrak train hit a red, 2000 Grand Am sedan near the intersection of Ellingson Road SW and Highway 99E. Albany police said 38-year-old Neal Allen Behm of Sweet Home died in the crash. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police said Behm was eastbound on Ellingson Road when he drove around the railroad crossing gate and was hit by the train.

Ellingson Road was closed in front of Linn-Benton Community College for about two hours as crews removed the car from the tracks.

The Amtrak train was carrying 183 passengers and no one on board was injured.
