SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- With newly-added advanced metals courses at Thurston High School, students can continue their career technical education through their senior year -- thanks to funds from Measure 98.

“By adding advanced metals, we allow these students to come back to the shop in the junior and senior years,” manufacturing teacher Polly Kohl said. “With the beginning classes, there are only classes for them here in their freshman and sophomore years.”

The metals shop also has had some major upgrades, including new welding booths and a new ventilation system. The new equipment allows students to learn skills like “tig” welding, plasma cutting and fabrication techniques.

Measure 98 funds have been helping CTE classes in our community. The measure was passed in 2016.
