EUGENE, Ore. -- The activist group Black Unity hosted a movie night Sunday at 8 p.m.

Around 100 people socially distanced on blankets at Sladden Park in Eugene watched the PBS documentary "Jim Crow of the North."

It is a PBS documentary about the spread of restrictive, racist real estate covenants in the early 20th century and how they impact communities of color today.

"We really wanted to be able to have a situation where people who are not of color or people who are of color can come together to be able to watch a movie on black history that is educational because in our school systems, they don't really have a lot of knowledge they can give us on black history," leader of Black Unity Clea Ibrahim said.

Ibrahim said Black Unity is planning another movie night in the park. However, they haven't picked which film will play next.
