ROSEBURG, Ore. - Nathan and Mike Kroeker began the River Hawk Tiny Home Co. to build tiny homes.
Tiny homes are generally 400 square feet or less, and the Kroeker's have already built the foundation for their first one with a trailer salvaged from a junk yard.
The Kroekers said they originally had the idea as a way for them to both transition in their careers, but after seeing the housing crisis in Douglas County, and personally experiencing it when they attempted to find a house, they felt passionate about helping the community as well.
”We’re two guys that have financial goals that want to provide for our families, but it’s so much more rewarding when we can serve our community and see who it will impact," Nathan Kroeker said.
The Kroekers said once tiny homes are up and running and they've discussed how to integrate them legally with the city, they have a lot of ideas for them.
They said they could serve as possible temporary housing units for students, accessory dwelling units to be housed on another property, a low-income housing solution, lodging for tourists, and even a step towards helping the homeless find homes.
