ALSEA, Ore. -- A 77-year-old Alsea man is dead after a single-vehicle rollover crash Monday afternoon, Benton County Undersheriff Greg Ridler said.

William Johnson was driving a blue 1995 Buick Regal, headed east on South Fork Road when the vehicle left the road and rolled down an incline, about 15 feet from going into the Alsea River. The crash happened just east of the intersection with Tobe Creek Road.

Ridler said Johnson was dead by the time deputies arrived on scene.

Investigators are looking into speed and possible medical issues as factors that may have contributed to the crash. Ridler said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role.

Corvallis Fire and Alsea Rural Fire assisted.
