EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene School District 4J bus driver that left a 4-year-old on on a bus last month has resigned.
Athena sat alone for 30 minutes on a day when the temperature was 90 degrees.
She was supposed to be bused from early childhood care to her home in Eugene, but the driver didn't drop her off and returned to the bus barn.
KEZI 9 News spoke with Athena's parents, and they said they were angry, sad and hurt that someone could take so little care of their little girl.
KEZI was told in a statement from the school district that the driver was put on leave and that they would be conducting an investigation.
On Friday, district officials issued the following statement:
"The district regularly reviews standard protocols including safety practices with all bus drivers, and will provide retraining as drivers return for the school year to help ensure such a circumstance does not happen again."
