SPRINGFIELD, Ore.-- With Halloween right around the corner, a local hospital is warning about the dangers that come with it.

The injury prevention coordinator at PeaceHealth says adults should go trick-or-treating with their kids on Halloween. They should also talk to children about safety before going trick-or-treating. Statistically, only one third of parents do that.

"Number one message is children should, when possible go to a lighted intersection and cross at a designated crosswalk. Kids should never run out from between cars. and for those out driving, they need to realize kids will be out running out doing things,” says Jim Cole, an EMS and Injury Prevention Coordinator.

Cole says kids should carry a flashlight or glow stick, and avoid masks that limit eyesight.
