LANE COUNTY, Ore. -- Lane County officials and striking union workers have reached a tentative contract agreement. All employees will return to work Wednesday morning at their regular times.
Lane County Commissioners and AFSCME members will vote to ratify the contract in the coming weeks.
"We are pleased an agreement has been reached that demonstrates respect for our workers and our community," Steve Mokrohisky, Lane County administrator, said. "We look forward to welcoming our coworkers back..."
LaRece Rivera, president of AFSCME local 2831 said, “We are so proud of all of our members who held the line for the last six days. We were standing up for our community, our wages, healthcare, and respect! Together we held strong and have built a stronger organization for the fights ahead."
As part of the deal, the county will make a one-time payment of $100,000 to be distributed by AFSCME to help "defray employee costs."
The three-year deal also includes:
- A 2 percent cost of living adjustment each year for all members.
- "Market adjustments" for 63 percent of AFSCME members.
- Up to $50 a month from AFSCME members for family health insurance coverage, after a $20 credit for participating in a free health screening.
- Dental hygienists who are now in temporary positions will move to part-time status.
The strike started Wednesday, October 18, and lasted a week.
