CRESWELL, Ore. - A protest group in Creswell is creating controversy after sending out unofficial voters' pamphlets.

The group called "Keep it Creswell" is protesting a cannabis company, OneGro from setting up shop in the city.

The group mailed out the unofficial voters' pamphlets last week.

The pamphlets are made to look like an official city document however if voters look closely, they can see the word "unofficial" printed faintly across the front page.

Dan Isaacson, the C.E.O. of OneGro, said the pamphlets are deceptive.

"I think that if you have to resort to this kind of deception to people, if you have to resort to defrauding people and hiding your message, then your message isn't strong enough on its own merit," said Isaacson.

Isaacson said both sides should always be presented in a voter's ballot.

Michael Weber, the PR Manager for Keep it Creswell and Say No to One Gro, said the purpose of the pamphlet was to warn the community of the dangers of allowing OneGro a win in November.

"One Gro has accused our PACs and other respected/outstanding members of the community as being frauds, liars, anti-marijuana black marketeers, and drug kingpins. Meanwhile, their own words and actions tend to reflect some of those characteristics which is a concern to the community," said Weber.

Cheryl Betschart with the Lane County Elections Office said the unofficial voters pamphlet does not violate any law or legislation.

"Because HB 2349 did not pass, there is nothing that would stop this group or individual from distributing an unofficial voters' pamphlet. ORS 260.695 places restrictions on imitation or sample ballots only," said Eric Jorgensen with the Oregon Elections Division.

Creswell residents will vote on the measure on November 7th.
