EUGENE, Ore. -- More than a dozen parents in Eugene learned more about the challenges that teens face.

Speaker Roy Retitfil is an author, counselor, and an expert on the topic. He wrote a book called "What Teens Want You to Know but Won't Tell You."

He spoke one-on-one with parents at Marist Catholic High School and shared how social media is linked to not only cyber-bullying but anxiety and depression.

"When social media became more popular, and phones started getting into peoples hands around 2011, we saw a drastic spike in the incidents of mental health concerns for young people. So I think the challenges are very similar, they're just multiplied," said Petitfils, counselor, LPC.

He stressed that teens deeply desire connection with their parents. He believes enforcing boundaries and discipline will help enrich the relationship down the road when they are parents.
