EUGENE, Ore. -- There could be more restriction coming for fireworks in Eugene.

Seven out of eight councilors voted to have the city manager come up with an ordinance that would restrict the use of fireworks.

Currently, people can use them for two weeks around the Fourth of July. The proposal would only allow them to be used on July 3 through July 5.

People could still be able to use them on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day but they will have to be quiet like fountains and sparklers.

"There's a lot of people in town who have challenges with noisy fireworks whether it's their animals or even themselves, who don't appreciate or can't handle that much noise," said Chris Pryor, Eugene City Councilor. "The city council is interested in restricting both the days in which fireworks can be used, to tighten the days more directly around the holiday as well as to be tighter in terms of the kinds fo the fireworks that can be used as a way to reduce the number of noise making fireworks."

They plan to come up with a decision by the end of the year.
