Officials said there are nearly 400,000 unemployed Oregonians. Last week, 14,000 people filed for unemployment benefits with the department processing 86% of those claims. However, the department said there are thousands of people still waiting for their checks.

The Employment Department has nearly 700 workers working seven days a week. They said this increase in staffing has helped increase the number of claims being processed. Before the pandemic, there were about 4,000 people filing for unemployment a week.
