LEABURG, Ore. -- A 4-year-old boy survived a near-drowning on Sunday after paddle boarders found him floating in the McKenzie River.

A deputy from the Lane County Sheriff's Office said the boy's mother was nearby and performed CPR until medics arrived.

He was first taken to Riverbend Hospital and then airlifted to a Salem hospital. His condition is unknown.

KEZI spoke with one woman, who was very upset to hear what happened

"I would be devastated, it’s hard to even talk about, or think about that,” said Pam Perez. “I would be devastated and I would do what I could to help the child. I pray that never happens."

The incident happened around 12:15 p.m., McKenzie Fire & Rescue Chief Darren Bucich said.

The amount of time the child was in the water is not known.
